    David’s Wharton Graduation

The weekend of May 15th, Grace and I traveled to Philadephia for David’s graduation from Wharton. As always, it took us half a day to recover from the red-eye. Saturday, we did some shopping, that included a return trip to Boyd’s, where we got Grace’s mom her mother’s day gift. Great store! Saturday night, we all had dinner at Roy’s, which was right across the street from his apartment.

Sunday morning, we had Mother’s Day brunch at continental, followed by David’s commencement at Penn. We were both excited and proud of his accomplishment. Afterwards, we headed to the airport to get home to Snickers. It was a short, but great weekend. Congratulations, David!

Oh, and congratulations to Matthew Blaine Idema, who also finished Wharton West and was listed among his Cohort W classmates.

    Dinner at Harmony & Jason’s

Harmony and Jason (aka Fat Kid) invited us over for dinner at their place in Menlo Park. We hadn’t seen them and the kids since before the holidays last year, so it was great to catch up. Tom and Tony also showed up. Logan and Cadence get bigger and cuter every time we see them. Good work on the ribs, Fat Kid.

    Addy, Charles & Kids Visit

Addy and Charles came to visit at the end of April. It was a top-secret reconnaissance mission. We had a great time hanging out with them and the kids on Burlingame Avenue. Stay tuned…

    Grace’s McKinsey Retreat

The weekend of April 21st, Grace and I traveled to Las Vegas (again) for her bi-annual McKinsey West Coast retreat. The event was held mostly at the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas, where we stayed. On Friday night, we headed to the strip, where they had rented out all of Studio 54 for dinner and dancing, followed by the late showing of Ka, a more recent Cirque du Soleil – everyone I know napped a bit. Logistics for 500 people can be tough. We didn’t fit on the last bus leaving for the hotel and didn’t feel like waiting for another to show up. So, way too many people piled into an Escalade limo. We were somewhere near Henderson when the driver pulled over and confirmed we had a flat. I crashed while they dispatched a new ride – we’re clearly getting too old for this.

After a couple hours sleep, we rallied Saturday morning for a golf scramble. I finally got to meet Grace’s good friends, Brett and his wife, Sandy, both of whom were in our foursome. We did well, but Jay Chang’s group went low. Saturday evening was a black-tie dinner at the hotel. We got to catch up with friends throughout the weekend and many faces are now quite familiar to me.

  • First Anniversary

    First Anniversary

On Sunday, April 9th, Grace and I celebrated one year of marriage together. All of Grace’s travel paid off with a great suite at the W in Westwood. I loved that you could order dog food from room service. After lunch together, we went over to Grace’s parents’ Westwood house, where they had kept our wedding cake in their freezer. It had been thawing over the weekend. Though it seemed intact, including the flowers, I deemed it inedible. We had such a good time at our wedding that it still seems like yesterday. This year flew by, but we’re always thankful to have each other.

    Grandmother Park’s Funeral

Grace’s father’s mother passed away during the first week of April. Grace was able to go down to LA to see her the morning she left us. Over the weekend, the entire Park clan and also some Hurs came to LA to remember her. She lived a long and prosperous life and we’re glad she’s able to rest in peace with Grandfather.

    Dinner at Little Giant

In early April, I traveled east for work. This was significant for several reasons. First, this was my first work trip for the new gig I started in March. Second, I realized on Monday morning that this was the first time I had ever been in NYC for work. Finally, the last leg of my trip was to Boston, a city I love, but to where I had not visited for over 17 years.

On Sunday night, I had dinner with Jen, Jon and Tina. On Monday, I finally had a chance to dine at Julie Taras’ restaurant, Little Giant. I caught up with Julie and had dinner with Jeffrey, Kim, Jeanah and Bobby. All of the food was delicious, but the mac and cheese with thick, hand-cut bacon stands out in my mind. For some reason, two dishes and desserts seemed to come out for every one we ordered. Maybe it was because Jeffrey made all of the tables, chairs, shelving and wine racks with his own two hands. Or, perhaps it was to keep Kim well nourished for the baby they are expecting in July (exciting). In any case, we had a great time catching up and I hope to get back there soon. Congratulations to Julie for creating such a great dining experience.

    Birthday Dinner

Grace and I quietly celebrated our birthdays together. Grace’s parents gave us a generous gift, as always. My parents treated us to dinner at Jardiniere in the city. Thanks to all of them for thinking of us. Thanks also to Francis and Jon, who sent us Reuben sandwiches from Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor! It was not only a surprise, but also a great treat.

Dim Sum with David & Friends

On March 19th, we had dim sum with David, who was in towns for interviews. We met up with Warren, Julia and Ryan Hayashi, Dora and Amanda Huang, and Allison. This was Amanda’s second date in as many weeks! Amanda was chillaxing with auntie Grace and Ryan seemed to like Dave. Good times.

Dinner with David, Ann & Jeremy

I forgot to mention that when David was in town, we also had dinner with Ann and Jeremy, who had just moved to the Bay Area. Since then, we’ve seen them again for dinner and they’ve settled down in Marin County. We’re very glad that moved up here from LA with Murphy. Here are a few pictures from dinner at Thanh Long.
