Grace’s McKinsey Retreat

by

The weekend of April 21st, Grace and I traveled to Las Vegas (again) for her bi-annual McKinsey West Coast retreat. The event was held mostly at the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas, where we stayed. On Friday night, we headed to the strip, where they had rented out all of Studio 54 for dinner and dancing, followed by the late showing of Ka, a more recent Cirque du Soleil – everyone I know napped a bit. Logistics for 500 people can be tough. We didn’t fit on the last bus leaving for the hotel and didn’t feel like waiting for another to show up. So, way too many people piled into an Escalade limo. We were somewhere near Henderson when the driver pulled over and confirmed we had a flat. I crashed while they dispatched a new ride – we’re clearly getting too old for this.

After a couple hours sleep, we rallied Saturday morning for a golf scramble. I finally got to meet Grace’s good friends, Brett and his wife, Sandy, both of whom were in our foursome. We did well, but Jay Chang’s group went low. Saturday evening was a black-tie dinner at the hotel. We got to catch up with friends throughout the weekend and many faces are now quite familiar to me.
