Weekend at Northstar

by

On Wednesday, Grace called an audible and coordinated with Addy and Charles to take the families to Tahoe for the weekend. I’ve been wanting to get Olivia up on skis since last season, so I was very excited. We rented a house in Northstar, which turned out to be very nice and convenient to get to the mountain.

On Saturday morning, Olivia and I headed to the mountain. It took us a little while to rent all the gear, but Olivia was a champ and was reasonably patient. Just as we were about to board the mid-mountain gondola, the car got jammed and shut down the entire operation for about 10 minutes … more waiting. We finally got on and Olivia was getting excited. It took a bit to get her to walk to the bunny hill. It was my first experience with the “magic carpet.”  I found it to be brilliant compared to the old-school tow-ropes. After about 15-20 runs down the hill with me running along side (in my ski boots), Olivia was ready for some lunch and then wanted to ride the chair lift. We got in about 4 more long runs before she decided to call it a day. She was a champ! I got in a few runs from the summit before the lifts closed.

On Sunday, O and I headed out again in the morning. It was a little faster because we had all our gear. We went straight for the chair-lift. We only got in a couple hours because we had to get home to check out of the house. Grace took Lucas sledding, but no pictures (boo). We made good time getting home with an important stop at In-N-Out.

I’m hoping this will now be a regular weekend adventure for us. We really need to take advantage of being so close to great skiing/snowboading! Hopefully Lucas will be ready this season, too.
