Progressive Dinner with Carey Friends

by

A group of parents from Olivia’s Kindergarten class agreed to bid on a dinner for all of us at our annual charity auction. Alas, we were outbid. It was proposed, however, that we try to have dinner together anyway. Several of us live just blocks apart, so we planned a progressive dinner for six families. Although the charity auction was “for the children,” this dinner was for the adults.

Kristy and Jimmy hosted cocktails and h’ordeuvres at their lovely home just around the corner. Grace and I hosted dinner. Amy and Steve hosted dessert (which is in Amy’s wheelhouse, among many other things).

It was a very fun and funny evening and I finally got a chance to speak with the parents of children Lucas and Olivia have known for years. It’s funny because often we parents invariably end up talking about the kids, but I don’t recall them coming up at all. Most of evening was spent talking about beavers and other industrious rodents. Okay, just beavers.

Our night ended under an almost-supermoon, surveying Steve’s grotto Amy’s pool that is shaping up beautifully. Thankfully, Steve warned everyone about the acid-filled pool or who knows what could have happened. The only thing that could have made this evening better is if we had done it earlier this year. That said, hopefully we’ll all do it again soon.
