Golf School in Scottsdale with Posse and Blaine

by

In the spirit of self-improvement, I finally went to golf school. Posse and Blaine are taking up the game in order to enjoy it with their kids, who are showing interest. Matt already had a session with Pomp at Jim Maclean a few months ago. We didn’t plan on the 2nd session being in July, but that was the first time we could make it happen.

I flew straight from LA and met the guys there. Ben already had a day of instruction by the time Matt and I arrived. It was hot, but it was a dry heat as they say. The benefit of going when no one else would dare is that rates at The Four Seasons made it almost free.

We all attended school together on Tuesday. Matt even put in a few extra hours while we went back to the hotel. By late afternoon, relaxing by the pool was very comfortable. It seems the only other people insane enough to go there this time of year were from Michigan. We met a family whose son goes to St. Mary’s and we also met a couple guys sitting right next to us, one of whom was a year behind me at WBHS. Small world.

Tuesday evening, we met up with our college buddy, Sameer, who is local. It was great catching up with him and hear about the amazing things he’s doing at the Mayo Clinic. We capped the evening off with a game of shuffleboard.

Wednesday, we got in an early round of golf at Troon North, which is next to the resort. Aside from rattlesnakes and bunnies, this is not the right type of course to pick up the game. It was challenging, with a lot of carry and not a lot of fairway. That said, it was still a fun round, which we almost finished before heading back to clean up and fly home together.

There’s a good chance we’ll do it again, but only October through March.
