On Saturday, June 5, after the wedding, we went back to Liz and Clarence's house to pick up the kids. We enjoyed one final feast with the family before we went back to Manhattan.
Liz and Clarence invited us to stay with them while we were in town. My parents drove in from Michigan and Jen and cousin Millie came in from the city. Both the first and second cousins had a wonderful time together. The only thing better than your mom's cooking is your mom and aunt's cooking. Special credit to Clarence for manning the grill all weekend (gourmet sliders, lamb chops, and Eemoh's famous spare ribs). We also went to their pool for a couple days, which was super fun.
Thanks to Liz, Clarence and Eemoh for being amazing hosts. Hopefully we'll be able to see everyone again before the end of the trip.
David and Mom and Dad Park flew up from LA for the day and Addy & Charles came over from the East Bay to celebrate birthdays. Everyone went in and got me a Canon 5D Mk II, which is a significant upgrade to my Canon 30D. I've had the 30D since Olivia was born and it has served me well. The main difference is that the camera is full-frame. I'm sure I'll play with the 1080p video, too.
I already blogged about Grace's iPad, which was a total surprise. Nice work Charles and family! It's still in the plastic - looking forward to seeing if this will change our lives...
Addy and Charles also got the kids easter presents, which was super generous and unexpected. Lucas received a guitar and Olivia received an Elmo laptop. Delaney got a pretty cool slider phone (her first, I believe) and Cameron is one step further to completing his LEGO Starwars collection.
Thanks everyone. The later photos in the album was taken with the new hardware. It should be noted that not only did Charles procure the camera and accessories, but he also charged the batteries for immediate use. Finally, as only Charles would know to do, he also scored me a super-fast UDMA FW800 card reader. Awesome!
Hanging at home before heading out to Tomokazu. Lucas is always on the run...
I'll have to figure out how to capitalize on this inclination. We're not afraid of winter...
Despite pleading for no gifts, everyone pretty much ignored us and got Olivia something lovely for her birthday. She was so excited by her wonderful presents, I think she forgot that Christmas had just passed. Thanks to everyone for their thoughtfulness.
After breaking the seal on Wii bowling and attending the Sugar holiday party, Olivia has been into bowling lately. Therefore, we decided to have an impromptu bowling party for Olivia today for her birthday. Frances brought Jake, Lily and Jude. Christine and Joon brought Marisa and Sarah, who loved attending to Olivia and Lucas. Paul brought Micah (Janet was home with Kiri, who was sick - we're sad we didn't get to meet her this trip). Il brought Rylee and Harrison. Christine brought Annalou's son, Aiden. Fritz brought himself.
The birthday girl had the most fun, so we were pleased. Her dad managed a turkey (sup) and had a super-fun time, too.
Happy Birthday, Olivia!
Grace's parents came to Michigan from LA on Tuesday so mom had them and Grace's Ann Arbor Hur aunts and uncles over for dinner. Olivia had three helpings - all of them dessert. Lucas was his cheerful self - guess we know who he might be taking after...
Happy Birthday, Dad!
On Monday, December 28th, we celebrated my dad's birthday at lunch at J. Alexander. Post-quadruple-bypass, all he wants on his b-day is a bacon cheeseburger. All the food was great and dad seemed to enjoy his gifts, which at this age are generally subtle hints by us to improve his wardrobe.
Mom's hosting a dinner party with Grace's family today.
We flew to Detroit on December 22nd. Northwest graced us with their new pleather seating, which came in handy when Olivia spilled her drink on her seat. We had to change underwear and pants before we pushed back. Lucas was a little ornery, but managed to nap for a bit. Olivia on the other hand did not sleep a wink. I was excited to learn that Northwest also added Fresca to their beverage assortment. I was only able to enjoy my Fresca over crushed ice for a few moments when Olivia spilled most of it on my lap. I, however, did not have a change of clothing on me.
Santa went a little overboard with the kids this year. Thanks to all of our generous family for the thoughtful gifts. We're going to have to leave a lot of all these fun toys here at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
Merry Christmas!
On Saturday, November 28th, we celebrated Lucas' Dol (Korean traditional 1st birthday celebration) with family and friends at Chosun Galbee, in Los Angeles. Lucas' was a trouper wearing his Hanbok (Korean outfit). At almost 3, Olivia is just now fitting into her Hanbok. Both of them were super cute. Thanks to everyone who shared this special occasion with us.
Mom, Dad, Jen, Grace, Olivia, Lucas and I all flew to LAX together on Wednesday, November 25th to spend Thanksgiving with Grace's parents and Charles' family. Flying Virgin out of the International terminal makes a big difference. The short flight was nice and uneventful.
We changed our plans at the last minute and decided to stay in NYC instead of Greenwich on Sunday, September 13th. Before heading to the hotel, we met up with mom, dad and Jen at Woo Lae Oak in SoHo for dinner. The drive in was a little stressful, but it was good to try it out. Thanks for dinner, JR!
On Friday, September, 11th, we checked out of the hotel and headed up to Jen's place for brunch before heading out of the city to Greenwich for the wedding. Linda brought Phoebe and Oliver. It's been a while since we've been to Jen's "new" place and she seems quite settled in now. Nice tv and patio furniture. I spent half the time trouble-shooting her wireless networking issues. Should have gotten her an Apple Airport instead of the Linksys...
Brunch was superb, by the way (scones, frittata, french toast, bacon and fruit).
On Sunday, June 21st, Grace arranged Father's Day Brunch with my parents, Addy & Charles' family, and Clara and Mike's family. It was an amazingly beautiful day in the city and the food was wonderful. Olivia enjoyed running around with Alex and her cousins, Cameron and Delaney. Thanks, Grace, for a wonderful Father's Day.
I traveled alone to Toronto for the Memorial Day weekend to celebrate Patty & Lou's wedding. It was a wedding for which our entire extended family has been waiting, so I wouldn't have missed it for the world. However, we decided that I would represent the family and that Grace, Olivia and Lucas would stay at home. After going and seeing all the cousins and all the other kids there, I regretted the decision, but the long flight home reminded me why it may have been the prudent one. In any case, it was great to see the entire Rhee, Hau, Kwon extended clan, and especially to spend more time with Patty (we only had a chance to meet once before) and her wonderful family.
I took a lot of pictures, so I split the albums up into the rehearsal dinner, the ceremony and reception, and other photos from the weekend, including a very full day of post-wedding activities. Highlights included:
Aside from a nice welcome by the Mr. Chung, Eemoh, as well as toasts by several members of the bridal party, additional memorable moments included a slideshow of Patty & Lou as well a fun quiz show hosted by the siblings. All good fun. Kenny also provided some entertainment back at the hotel bar, where a Millie vs. Kenny arm wrestling rematch from Christmas 2005 took place. Kenny restored some honor to his family with a win, but was quickly put away by Ellie, Sandor's fiancee (recently engaged, congratulations). Welcome to the family!
Patty was a beautiful bride and Lou never looked happier. It was a truly memorable wedding and the reception atop the hotel lasted until late into the evening. Props to Sandor for emceeing the evening and providing much of the entertainment. Clarence's speech included both his deadpan humor and his heartfelt congratulations. However, it was Millie, who checked her gloves at the door and gave quite the rousing retelling of Lou's dating history.
Sunday was a busy day, which included a family brunch in the morning. Patty arranged a sightseeing tour to Niagara Falls and a winery for our families. Transportation was first class in our limousine van (complete with neon and fiber optic lighting). I hadn't been to Niagara Falls in over a decade - somehow they seemed smaller than I remember them. We also stopped at the Jackson-Trigg winery in Ontario for a tour and tasting. Finally, we ended the evening over at Patty's parents house, where the Chungs served an amazing feast.
We couldn't be happier for the newlyweds - congratulations!

We visited Michigan to celebrate Lucas' baek-il back in February. I forgot to post the rest of the pictures.
