Weekend in LA

I already posted a bit real time and from Cindy and Jay's wedding, but there were other highlights from the trip:

Olivia and I had some nice father daughter time on Thursday night when Grace and Lucas were already in LA. It was the first time the kids had been apart. We had fun at the airport and on the plane. She was a great travel buddy.
After getting in on Friday, I went to get the kids and myself dressed. Grace said pick her up between 6:00 and 6:15pm in Century City. She walked out at 6:50pm while this was going on in the car. Good times already!

Uncle Dave could not care less about cars, but somehow we ended up at Beverly Hills Porsche. While he shopped, Olivia and I just played around. She has this strange obsession with green cars and they had the greenest Cayman S. Eventually, she gravitated to some more serious rides. I'm sure the sales people were thrilled to have her bouncing around their $159K 2010 911 Turbo. I was relegated to the passenger seat, which was fine. She also liked the GT3, which was also a wise choice but lacked rear seats for her.
We had a nice lunch at Barney's with Uncle Dave. Service was particularly horrible, however, and after sitting there for a very long time, we got up just as Neil Patrick Harris was walking in with his entourage. Bad timing for us.
It was rainy on Saturday, which was a bummer for the wedding, but made for some beautiful rainbows on our drive to Pasadena.
Lucas and I got some father-son time in on Sunday morning on a walk around downtown Westwood.
We got in some shopping for the kids on Robertson. Kitson for kids is an insanely fun store for them. Lucas got all the goods while Olivia had fun playing with all the toys. She did, however, get to bring home Abby, which almost completes here Sesame Street collection.
Finally, we met Grace's parents at Chosun Galbee for a nice lunch before heading to the airport.

Cindy & Jay's Wedding

We went down to LA for the weekend to celebrate Cindy & Jay's wedding. For no good reason, we took the kids to the rehearsal dinner in Monterey Park on Friday night - big mistake. The wedding was at The Athenaeum in Pasadena on Saturday. I'm not going to name names, but we were late. The only benefit was that I was standing in back and managed to get one good shot of the beautiful bride and groom as they were walking down the aisle.

It was a McK health care reunion, so it was nice to see a lot of familiar faces, including Carolyn and Mark, who came all the way from Switzerland.

The wedding was awesome: venue, food, company, toasts, cake & Pinkberry dessert. However, the highlight of the evening was when the DJ started calling up some random people, 4 men and 4 women, including Grace. Everyone was wondering why they were front and center when it was explained that Cindy and Jay (really Jay) decided a good old-fashioned dance-off was in order.

Here's the video. Grace and her partner were couple 3. Personally, I think they were robbed. One day, I'm going to have to explain to the kids that their mom tied for last place in this event. I also included couples 1, 2 & 4 in case you were wondering what they were up against. Nice effort, Grace!

Nicholas Moon's Dol (1st Birthday)

Clara and Mike hosted Nicholas' Dol at Yank Sing in the Rincon Center. He chose the calculator, which Mike says means he'll be a VC. Happy birthday, Nicholas!

(did a little post-party shopping in Union Square afterwards).

RIP Microsoft Entourage

I made the "switch" to Apple back in March of 2003 and never looked back ... until this week. I've been running some form of Windows on my Macbook (Pro) since Parallels came out, mostly for testing in IE. I had mentioned to someone that my Entourage had been pretty stable (i.e., no crashes in 6 months), but I only jinxed myself and had a corrupt db a couple weeks ago.

This past weekend, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and Office in a new VMWare virtual machine with the thought of switching over to Windows Office completely, including trashing Entourage for Outlook. My Exchange account in Outlook finally synched up a couple hours ago and now I'm reading this!

If Office 2011 for Mac is hobbled at all, I'm not switching back. MSFT, your timing stinks.
