    Burlingame Criterium

Sunday, we were somewhat trapped at home because the annual Burlingame Criterion was being held just outside our apartment. There were various races throughout the day around the course that lapped downtown Burlingame.

In the evening, we had too late of a start to visit Ann and Jeremy at their new house in Marin, so we settled for meeting at Brother’s Korean BBQ in the city. I think it hit the spot for everyone.

Kelly & Richard’s Going Away Party

Addy, Charles, Delaney and Cameron were back in the Bay Area this past weekend. The big news is that Charles has a great offer to work in SF, so the family is moving back from Kansas City after five years. We’re looking forward to having them nearby again. We had breakfast together on Burlingame Avenue on Saturday morning.

In the afternoon, we went down to Julie and Eric’s house in Los Altos, where they were hosting a BBQ for Kelly and Richard. Richard just finished a year down in Miami and they are both now headed to Chicago for a couple years where Richard will be doing a fellowship. Having both lived there, we know they’ll have a great time and we wish them all the best. Sejal and Antonio were also there with their 3 boys. We’ve never been to Julie and Eric’s new home, but it is fantastic, with lots of space indoors and outdoors for their sons, Jeffrey and Justin, to play.

We met up with Addy and Charles again in Burlingame, where they were testing out a nearby playground. It’s pretty amazing how far playground technology has come. I guess these are things we may need to start worrying about?

    First Ultrasound

Grace and I are expecting our first baby around the first of the year. We’re very excited and are already thankful for the support of our family and friends. All we can hope for right now is a healthy baby and mom … so far so good. Here is video (high | low) from the first ultrasound.

    Father’s Day Weekend

Grace and I went down to Los Angeles for Father’s day weekend. Our original flight was cancelled (consolidated), so we didn’t arrive in LA until midnight. Saturday morning, we headed down to Bushwood Candlewood Country Club in Whittier. David, who was back in California after traveling to Brazil, met us at the course to make a five-some. We ran into the Park uncles and aunts, who were about 7 holes ahead of us. It was a pretty hot day for LA, but fun nonetheless.

Afterwards, we stopped by to visit Grandmother and Grandfather Park’s gravesite with Andy and Tommy’s parents. We all had dinner together in K-town – Tommy joined us, too.

For Father’s day, all of the kids chipped in for a 20″ Apple iMac for Dad. It remains to be seen how useful it will be, but IT support is usually required on every trip, so I’m hoping this will help a bit. On the way to Father’s Day Brunch Korean BBQ, I noticed the Ferrari Club of America Concours D’Elegance going on in Beverly Hills. I’ve seen this event before and desperately wanted to stop, but we were running a little late. Grace snapped a quick pic for me. Next time…

Korea was playing France in the world cup during lunch, so Chosun Kalbi was pretty empty. Before the game, I heard the Korean kids who rent from Mom and Dad singing the national anthem next door – awesome. Jen was texting me from K-town in NYC, where she was watching. She said it was nuts. We were sitting outside and when Korea tied the game, the whole staff seemed to disappear indoors to see the replay. As an aside and in the spirit of Korean nationalism, the Fundai Hyundai Azera sedan we rented from Hertz was VERY impressive and far better than our standard Taurus. Great for them!

We headed straight for the airport after lunch. Grace was unhappy with our seats (I never mind where we sit), so we upgraded the 52 minute flight. She slept most of the way and I did the Sodoku puzzles on the way up, so I went a little crazy with the camera, taking more than a few pictures of the beautiful California coastline.

Happy Father’s Day to my dad, too. We missed you and Mom that day.

Dinner with Cindy, Jody & Huangs

Sunday night, we met up with Dora, Ben, Cindy, and Jody, who is moving back to the Bay Area, in Foster City for dinner. It was nice to catch up with everyone and even Amanda was semi-pleased to see me.

    Golf with Terri & Francis

Sunday, June 11th, Grace and I headed up to the city early to play golf with Terri and Francis. This was not only the first time we were meeting Terri, who is also a fellow Wolverine, but also the first time I’ve played a full round at Harding Park, site of the 2005 WGC Amex event, where Daly choked big-time in a playoff with Tiger. You could say I choked, too. Perhaps I could blame it on the inclement weather, as the June gloom fog rolled in and left us chilled for most of the round. The day before, Francis and I played a practice round up in Marin where the weather was unusually perfect (normally too hot). In any case, it was a fun round and I was pleased to learn there is a Bay Area resident rate. Out-of-towners can expect a pretty steep greens-fee for a muni, albeit a beautiful and very challenging one.

Dinner with Liz, Jeff & Benjamin

Sunday, June 4th, after way too long, we finally got together with Liz and Jeff for dinner in Burlingame. Benjamin napped through the first part of dinner, but we were glad that he woke up later to greet us. He’s a super-cute little guy who sure loves his mom and dad.

    Dorkfest 2006

On Sunday, we headed back out to Half Moon Bay in the morning for Dorkfest 2006. The highlight this year was the surprise appearance of a new Z4 M Coupe press car. Though I’m still partial to mine, the new one is pretty cool too. I’m not really a fan of the recent Bangle-designed BMW’s, but they’ve all grown on me over time. The lines of the new M Coupe are much more interesting than those of the Z4 roadster (which I happen to prefer over the run-of-the-mill Z3 roadster). The interior is very nice, with grippy, comfy seats and a steering wheel was the coolest on which I’ve ever laid my paws. Saw some familiar faces and everyone was friendly. Too bad the weather was not as nice as Saturday.

    Golfing with John & Michael

On Saturday, June 3rd, my friend from work, John, invited us to play Half Moon Bay with his friend, Michael. The weather seemed a little dodgy as we drove over the hill and through the fog, but it turned out to be a beautiful day – perfect weather for golf!
